Some of the online surveys charge you up to  $39.95 for a &#8220;membership&#8221;. Other sites are free. Some sites merely give  you links to what they proclaim to be the &#8220;best&#8221; online surveys. They  make all sorts of promises and you will read lots of testimonials on  their sites, supposedly from people who have been paid tons of money by  completing these online surveys . I can only speak from experience but I  consider these online surveys to be huge time wasters.</p>
<p>I have wasted hundreds of hours completing survey after survey, just  to find out whether or not it is a legitimate business opportunity.  I  have personally tested new dinner entrees, soft drinks, toilet papers  and nutritional supplements before they were introduced to the public,  but I have yet to see one single penny from any of these companies. All I  have really gained (besides 8 rolls of toilet paper) is that my e-mail  address has now been added to thousands of other internet marketing  companies and survey companies.  Since completing my first online  survey, my spam has increased by more than 4000%, so now I have to waste  even more time deleting hundreds of e-mail messages each day telling me  about the latest, greatest survey.</p>
<p>My advice to you would be to ignore them completely and spend your  time building a business that will pay you REAL money!</p>

<p>The fee to join is around $399.  For an additional fee of $150 they will build 2 websites for you so you can operate your business exactly the same way they do.   After the initial $150 set up fee, the websites cost you $39 a month to maintain them.</p>
<p>For another $100, Online Business Systems will even help you get set up to accept credit cards in your business.  Of course, the credit card company will charge you another fee of $40/month after that.</p>
<p>They assign you a coach, they build your website for you, they teach you to recruit, they teach you to sell.  They write your scripts for you and they practice with you.  They teach you where to advertise, how to advertise.  There isn&#8217;t much they don&#8217;t teach you.  They share every secret.  They withhold nothing.  And the millionaires are right down there in the trenches with you.</p>
<p>The products they have chosen to sell are Herbalife Nutritional Products, but it wouldn&#8217;t really matter what they were selling.  It is the detailed system and duplication that really makes it all work.   But because they have learned to harness a Multi-Level Marketing program, when they make you rich, they get richer.</p>
<p>If you follow your coach&#8217;s instructions on the instructions on the training portion of your website, step by step, you can expect to be making $5,000 &#8211; 7,000/month within 6 months.  It&#8217;s not easy and it IS time consuming, but if you are trainable these guys will train you.   If you sign up and do what they tell you for the first 30 days and then you don&#8217;t keep working hard at it, you will loose about $5,000 in 3 &#8211; 45 days.</p>
<p>Although I personally met people with Online Business Systems who are honestly making $7500-$10,000 a month EVERY MONTH, it just isn&#8217;t for me.  If you are into management or recruiting, this is the group to join!</p>

Think about it, print shops  have machines which can fold and stuff thousands of envelopes in a  matter of minutes. And since it is all done by machine, they can charge  ridiculously low prices for the service.  So why would a company spend  hundreds of dollars on postage and shipping to send you envelopes and  flyers to stuff at home when they can have them folded and stuffed by a  print shop for less money than they could pay you to do it at home?</p>
<p>Most people responding to envelope-stuffing advertisements expect to  receive a box of flyers and a box of envelopes.  This is NEVER the  case.  Instead, what you usually receive is a letter from the company  telling you how wonderful their plan is and how easy it is for you to  make money with this business.  You may even read written testimonials  from other &#8220;employees&#8221; who claim to have made a fortune stuffing  envelopes from home.  You may also see copies of checks which they claim  they earned for their work.  Don&#8217;t believe a word of it.  All you will  get will be a promise to give you more information about the company,  for a fee, of course.  The fee is usually around $25.00.  In exchange  for your hard-earned money, you may get some general information about  the plan.  You may even receive a list of companies which supposedly  hire people just like you to stuff envelopes from home.  More than  likely, all you will get is a set of instructions telling you how to set  up the same kind of advertising plan to which you responded and how to  trick other people into paying you for information on envelope  stuffing.  What you WON&#8217;T get is paid.</p>
<p>This scam is a classic pyramid scheme and has been around for more  than 40 years.  Don&#8217;t waste your time.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are several personalized children&#8217;s book franchises floating around.  They are all pretty much the same.  I researched 3 of them and finally chose Create-A-Book.  But they all work pretty much the same way.  The company provides you with special computer software.  You go into the program and enter the child&#8217;s name, friends&#8217; names, city, state, etc. and the computer inserts the child&#8217;s personal information into the story.  Then you print the pre-illustrated pages out on your  laser printer.  If you&#8217;re lucky, you will feed the right page at the right time and everything will go well.  Then you assemble the book, staple the pages together, glue them into the book jacket and voila!  You have a personalized children&#8217;s book!</p>
<p>First of all, the start-up costs on ANY franchise are going to be a lot higher than for any other type of home business, like Mary Kay or Herbalife, for example.  But because it is a franchise, not as many people are doing it so you won&#8217;t have a problem with 700,000 other people in your city selling the same products.  And although I don&#8217;t remember exactly how much I paid to buy the franchise, I believe that it was less than $2,500, which is still a LOT less than buying a McDonald&#8217;s franchise or a Curves franchise.</p>
<p>For your $2,000 or $2,500, all you really get is the right to produce and sell the product, the right to use the Create-A-Book name, plus the specialized software and instruction manuals.  You don&#8217;t get any products.  So in addition to your franchise fee, you have to purchase pre-illustrated book pages and book jackets for each book that you want to offer.  There are many different books that a customer could potentially purchase, and you will need to purchase a full case of pre-illustrated book pages for each book and a full case of pre-printed book jackets for each book you want to offer.</p>
<p>The biggest problem (like any new business) that I ran into was trying to figure out the best way to market and promote the books.  When I purchased the franchise, the internet wasn&#8217;t as popular as it is today and I knew nothing about designing websites or promoting products via the internet.  Instead, I chose to advertise the books by placing ads in local newspapers, which turned out to be a total waste of money.  I didn&#8217;t sell one single book with those ads.  As Fall rolled around, I started renting booth space at gift and hobby shows, craft shows, craft fairs and shopping mall kiosks.  The beauty of selling in this kind of setting is that you can print the books and assemble them while the customer waits.  Or, if you get really busy, you can have the customer pre-pay for the book, finish their shopping and return to pick up the book in 30 minutes.</p>
<p>During the Christmas season I sold a LOT of books.  In fact, I worked 20 hours a day to keep up with all the orders.  I ended up having to ship most of the orders to the customers because I couldn&#8217;t print them and assemble them fast enough to keep up with the orders.  But when the Christmas season ended, so did my business.</p>
<p>When taxtime came, I thought I was going to owe a lot of money to the IRS because of all the sales I had made during the past 3 months.  But then I added up the cost of all the advertising I had done, the booth rentals and shows, the cost of packaging and shipping all those orders, travel to and from the shows, and the cost of all the pre-illustrated pages and pre-printed book covers and guess what?  I had only made about $700 profit for 3 long months of long hours and hard work.</p>
<p>The story has a happy ending though.  Shortly after Christmas, one of the other Christmas Gift and Hobby Show vendors called me.  She was amazed at all the traffic in and out of my booth.  (Little did she know that most of the traffic consisted of people stopping back by the booth every 5 minutes to see if their book was finished yet.)  The lady wanted to know how she could purchase her own Create-A-Book franchise.  I sold her mine.  Happily.</p>
<p>If I were to attempt to do it all over again today, I would market the books via the internet and probably build a website where people could go online and place their orders.  And I would probably rent more kiosks in shopping malls during the months of November and December and hire college students and housewives to man them.    But on the other hand, if I were to attempt to do it all over again . . . I wouldn&#8217;t.</p>

For those of you who aren&#8217;t, Longaberger  Basket Company is located in Dresden, Ohio and they make very expensive  hand-woven baskets. Their baskets come in all shapes and sizes, from  business-card size to picnic baskets. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">Longaberger has been  around since 1918.  What began as a small, family business now has more  than 67,000 representatives throughout the United States. Longaberger  representatives hold in-home demonstrations where they haul lots of  baskets into the hostess&#8217; living room and suggest different ways to use  each of them. Longaberger also offers you monthly brochures showing the  latest baskets and have special limited edition collections.  To  increase the sales potential, the company offers plastic liners, lids,  garter, covers, etc. to go with almost every basket they sell. Since  each kind of basket is a different shape and size, that means even more  liners, lids, garters and covers!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">Representatives basically  show the baskets and catalogues, take orders, collecct money and place  the order. The company ships all the baskets to the hostess and it is  her job to deliver all the orders.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">The baskets are all  expensive and the commission rate is extremely low compared to most home  businesses and Multi-Level Marketing programs. But once you find a  couple of collectors, you are guaranteed regular sales.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">I sold Longaberger  Baskets for 3 years. For the first 6 months, I distributed catalogues  and tried to find people who were willing to invite all their friends  over for in-home demonstrations. People either love them or they hate  them and it was really hard to get people to host a party. But it only  takes 3 or 4 people to get your business rolling because Longaberger  people ALL seem to know other Longaberger people. One you get into the  right circles, collecters are everywhere!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">I actually had one  customer who ordered $300-$400 in baskets EVERY month. Her entire house  was decorated in Longaberger and after you buy the baskets, of course,  you need the plastic liners, covers, lids, tags, etc. But because the  commission rate is so low, I still didn&#8217;t make much money. If you  developed a network of 20 or 30 collectors, however, you could actually  have a decent business going. I just got tired of all the paperwork and  the headaches &#8212; especially after my one &#8220;good&#8221; customer decided to put  herself on a budget and gave up Longaberger. It just wasn&#8217;t worth all  the hassle that I went through to make $12.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial; color: #000000; font-size: x-small;">You won&#8217;t make BIG money  and you will never get rich from this business. But most Longaberger  consultants get into the business just to get their own baskets at a  discount, NOT to make money. I finally found ONE business that pours a  steady stream of money into my bank account without all the headaches.</span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>“Do we need to purchase auction software programs?” “How do we keep up with the data?” These are some of the most frequently asked questions about silent auctions. Handling the data is, by far, the most complex part about an auction but it’s also one of the most important decisions to get right!</p>
<p><strong>There are several ways to handle all of the data associated with a silent auction:  You can:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Purchase one of several available silent auction software programs.</li>
<li>Have a Programmer custom-build your own software program.</li>
<li>Keep up with the data in auction spreadsheets, such as Excel.</li>
<li>Build auction databases, in something like MS Access.</li>
<li>Not use a computer at all.</li>
</ol>
<p>I strongly recommend against not using a computer at all. Hand-writing everything, even for the smallest of auctions will look unprofessional, has the greatest potential for error, and is just not worth the effort when several of the other solutions are relatively easy.</p>
<p>Many auction committees either have or can find someone with some computer skills. A computer-savvy person can create a spreadsheet to handle the data or build a simple database if they have enough time to devote. The problem is this: The initial guess of what data will be needed at the start of the process is often fairly different from the desired data by the end of the auction. We’ve learned, the hard way, that it’s much better to really think this through and get the data structure just right before starting any data entry. We think this is so important that <strong>we’ll share our expertise and give you the data structure from our own auction software programs for free.</strong></p>
<p>For our first silent auction, I created my own, custom silent auction software. Having never even been to a silent auction at the time, I guessed at what fields would be necessary and did a pretty good job at that, if I might say so myself. Of course, along the way, after we had entered several hundred donated items along with the donor’s information, we decided that we needed another piece of information on each item. It wasn’t absolutely necessary, but we knew it would make our lives easier the night of the auction. Since we hadn’t asked the volunteers going out and requesting donations for this extra piece of information, they had to help us find the info for each item, sometimes even needing to contact the donor again. Then, our computer committee (made up of myself and one other,) had to go into each donated item record and enter this new piece of information. Not fun!! Had we known we’d want this information from the start, everyone’s lives would have been much easier and we would have looked more professional to the donors we had to recontact.</p>
<p><strong>Luckily for you, I’m sharing what I’ve learned with you about auction databases!</strong></p>
<p>Now that I’ve attended many auctions, both as guest and as database administrator / auction software designer, I can wholeheartedly recommend that you use a full silent auction software program rather than just a spreadsheet or simple database. There’s a lot of data involved with a silent auction and your ability to enter it quickly and easily will really pay off. Making your guests wait at the end of the evening while data entry and/or printing invoices takes place is the worst mistake many silent auction committees make. These same guests might be less likely to attend the following year or, if they do attend, they might not bid later in the evening if they know they haven’t won anything yet. Having enough data entry volunteers, several networked computers to use, fast printer(s), and an easy auction software program designed for quick data entry are the best ways to ensure no long waiting lines at the end of the evening.</p>
<p>With good auction systems, there will be no need to re-enter this information each year. Over the years, the data entry job will get easier and easier since many of the donors and guests will repeat from year to year.</p>

Before you decide how you’ll handle your bid numbering, you’ll need to decide on your Auction software or spreadsheet. Some software automatically assigns the bidder number as you enter your guests or donors and guests. Others, and any custom-designed spreadsheets, allow you to assign numbers to your bidders however you choose.</p>
<p>If you have the choice, don’t start numbering your auction bidders with 1. Start with 100 or 101 instead and assign all bidders 3-digit numbers. Some guests could feel hurt or slighted by getting assigned a higher number, say 98, when another guest has a number like 1 or 2. There’s also the possibility that someone could leave off a digit while bidding (like 81 instead of 381) and, if you’ve used 3-digit numbers, your auction committee can easily recognize this problem and assign the next bidder down as the winner.</p>
<p>Never assign bidder numbers alphabetically because this would force you to either change bid numbers as you add guests or to have most but not all alphabetical in the end.</p>
<p>It’s a great idea to allow guests to use the same number year-after-year and using a good software program which allows you keep your donors and guests while starting over each year with new donations makes this easy.</p>
