Rolling Your Own Cigarettes

Cigarette prices are only going to continue increasing. With people in some areas paying more than five dollars per pack, it’s not a big surprise that many smokers are rolling their own instead. Rolling cigarettes can save you fifty percent or more – even though you end up smoking the same number of cigarettes every week.

You might not know enough about rolling your own cigarettes to decide if this is a good investment. Here are the facts about this type of cigarette so that you can figure out if it’s something you’d like to try.

Loose tobacco comes in all flavors. You can buy regular, light, menthol or light menthol. You can also buy all-natural or additive-free tobacco in loose form.

You don’t have to ditch the filter. Cigarette tubes, which are usually sold in one-hundred-count boxes, cost only a few bucks per box. With the right rolling machine, you can pack your own filtered cigarettes. These tubes come in many varieties, so you’re sure to find a tube that’s just like the pre-rolled cigarettes you currently smoke.

If you want non-filter cigarettes, you can get rollers for three or four dollars. These little devices make it easier for you to roll your own. But if you really want to roll entirely by hand, you can learn fairly quickly.

Rolling machines can be very inexpensive. You could pay about eighty bucks for a deluxe model, but you don’t have to invest that much. There are ten-dollar rollers or packers that work very well without busting your budget.

With practice, you can roll a week’s worth of cigarettes in just an hour or two. You probably have to work more than one or two hours to pay for the pre-rolled cigarettes you smoke every week, so this is a good investment.

Getting started is not too difficult. Go to the tobacco store and look for these things:

Loose tobacco – whatever type you want. You might start with a small pouch. That way, if you don’t like rolling your own, you haven’t wasted much money.

A roller or packer. Make sure that the type you buy fits your needs. You can’t roll filtered cigarettes on a roller that’s designed for non-filtered smokes, and vice versa.

Cigarette tubes if you want filters – or cigarette papers if you want the non-filter version.

Most rollers will include directions, often with illustrations. If this isn’t enough to get you started, you can search the Internet. YouTube, among other sites, has videos of people demonstrating how to make your own cigarettes.

Don’t expect to be great at this the first few times you try to make a cigarette. This takes a bit of learning, so keep trying. You might waste a few tubes or papers at first, but that’s okay. Once you learn what to do, you’ll save lots of money and have the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve learned something new and useful.

Your initial investment will be a bit high, but you won’t have to buy another roller any time soon. The rest of the materials are cheap cigarettes compared to what you’re paying for your packs or cartons of cigarettes, so making your own is well worth this investment.
