I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this film. I’d read both negative and glowing reviews of it, and I couldn’t decipher much from the trailers that I saw. All I knew coming into the theater was that it was a Tim Burton film, and the animation looked like what he did in ТA Nightmare Before Christmas. I figured that since he’s directing it, it must be somewhat good, right? Wrong.

Corpse Bride is more or less a bland disney musical cartoon for kids, peppered with some somewhat dark imagery that Burton did better the first time. Everything that could be remotely interesting is ruined either by the horrid singing, or that goofy humor that isn’t funny. The plot is a really bland love story, and it’s so thin that you don’t care about the characters one bit. Can this really be the same guy that directed Edward Scissorhands’?

If you like asinine  kids stories with misplaced singing and okay imagery, then go ahead and watch Corpse Bride.  But if you are looking for a film that has any redeeming value for thinking adults, then you should probably pass, because unlike Burton’s other films that were pg but still thought provoking, this is just a disney movie put though a darker lens.
