Why this Medication is Used:

Ranitidine is used to treat conditions where your stomach produces excess acid due to stomach or small bowel ulcers. It may also be used to prevent stomach upset or other reactions from other medications.

How do you take this Medication:

Tablets: Ranitidine is swallowed with a glass of water either every 12 hours or once daily (usually at bedtime). It can be taken with or without food.

Injection: Ranitidine injection will be given by your nurse.

Precautions:

• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
• Tell your doctor if you are taking the medication Ketoconazole, or if you have kidney or liver disease.
• It is important to continue the medication for the full length of time ordered by your doctor, even if you feel better. You may take an antacid between Ranitidine doses, unless your doctor says otherwise.
• Check with your doctor if the stomach pain continues or gets worse.
• You should try not to smoke cigarettes if possible. If you are unable to stop smoking do not smoke after the last dose of the day. You also should not drink any alcoholic beverages while taking Ranitidine. Both alcohol and smoking increase stomach acid and reduce the effect of Ranitidine.
• Store in a cool, dry place. Keep out of the reach of children.
