The Efficiency of Home Solar Panels: Factors That Affect It
When shopping for solar panels, there may be a need to become choosy. Aside from the fact that they can be quite costly, bear in mind that having home solar panels may also be considered as an investment; people who invest know for a fact that it is important to invest in things that are considered as most valuable, therefore, selecting the right product is a must.
With panels that produce residential electricity via solar power, most people may find that whatever amount they shelled out will pay off in the end. Of course, for this to happen, you have to ensure that you not only get the right components, but also place those panels at the right places. How efficient your panels are may be affected by some factors such as the changing seasons, pollution, direction of the panels, etc.
Changing seasons may make or break panels because the sun’s rays are needed to produce the heat or electricity we need in our household. Remember that the sun’s rays have better reach to your panels during the summer as compared to the sun’s rays during winter, thereby making panels less effective during wintery months.
Another factor that may lessen the power of your home’s panels may be the pollution, and sometimes, even the fog. In a polluted or foggy area, the rays of the sun are dispersed, thus, the time it takes for those rays to reach panels may be longer.
The angle by which your roof is tilted is also an important factor that determined how efficient your panels will become. If your roof is tilted at an angle between forty to sixty degrees, the bigger the chance for the panels to be hit completely by the sun’s rays. For people who may not have roofs that tilt from forty to sixty degrees, they may have to look for solar power producing panels that have manually adjustable tilts that may aid in efficiency. Roof tilts or panel tilts may also help protect your solar tools from debris, snow, hail, etc.
The direction where your roof faces may also add or subtract from the level of efficiency provided by the panels. The most successful panels are believed to be those that are placed on top of roofs that face the south as they may be able to receive the biggest amount of sunlight as compared to those that face the other directions.
Your home’s geographic location may also affect the efficiency of solar power producing panels. Countries above the equator have different sunlight hours and different ’sunlight powers’ which are at the same time affected by dynamic seasons. Of course, how efficient your panels will be is definitely affected by those factors.
People have a choice of home solar panels: amorphous, mono-crystalline, etc. However, the type of solar panel may be less important than the location where you place it and whether or not you were able to follow the installation instructions properly. If you really want to lower your electric bills, take the efficiency factors into consideration first.
