Drug Uses
Pepcid is used for treating and preventing ulcers. It is also used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), conditions that cause increased acid secretion, and esophagitis. It also may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Pepcid as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
Take Pepcid by mouth with or without food.
Take Pepcid at least 2 hours before or after taking cephalosporins (eg, cephalexin), itraconazole, or ketoconazole.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Pepcid is an H2 (histamine) blocker. It reduces stomach acid by blocking one of the chemicals (histamine) that stimulates the release of acid into the stomach.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Pepcid , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Storage
Tablets and suspension should be stored at room temperature, 15-30C (59-86F). Injection should be stored between 2-8C (36-46F).

Some medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
* if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
* if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

Possible Side Effects

* Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; headache.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
* Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); convulsions (seizures).
