What to do When the Relationship’s Over

We form relationships to meet the basic human need for companionship. Almost as frequently, we decide we’ve chosen an unsuitable companion and part ways. Most breakups, no matter how friendly, involve significant pain.  Men in particular have a harder time dealing with breakups. Most men have been taught from birth to hide their feelings, and so they’ll be stolid through a breakup, but they still feel the pain. It always helps to have a plan to deal with any situation.  Here are some tips that will help you get over the pain of a breakup.

Tip One: Cry if you want to

If you feel there is so much getting piled inside you then its better to take it out by crying. If you are man there is nothing wrong in shedding a few tears because you are also a human being and can also get hurt. Assuming you really liked this girl, and were committed to the relationship you had with her, it’s only natural that the pain will take some time to heal. You cannot (or should not) program your crying, but you can contain it (that’s something men are taught from birth!).  So don’t cry in public – it’s a really private activity that should be restricted to your home. The fact is that the relationship’s really over – grieving will help you accept that fact and move on with your life.

Tip Two: It’s not your fault

The worst thing that you can do after the break up is to blame yourself when you are already going through so much. Now is the time to attend to yourself and your emotional health, not accuse yourself over a relationship that’s in the past. The heartbreak you’re going through now is much like a disease – and when you’re fighting it off, you don’t go out of the way to acquire another. The depression you feel after a breakup is typical, but one of the techniques you can use bring yourself out of it is to think positive. Look inside yourself and find all the good things there and emphasize them – that’ll attract more good to you!

Tip Three: Help is available – take it!

Now is when you should be with family and friends, because they’ll give you the emotional support and understanding you need. It’s not required to pour out your heart if you don’t care to – even simple togetherness is therapeutic because it’ll overcome feelings of loneliness and boost your self-esteem. Do things you like to do with your family and friends, things you really enjoy but which won’t remind you of your ex-girlfriend.  In fact, you can even ask them to help clear the reminders of her from your place.

The search for the right woman to spend life with is an adventure, a challenge.  Before we find her, we’ll find women we think might be the right one, but we’re mistaken – and so it’s almost inevitable that we’re going to go through some breakups.  You can always make a difference as long as you remember to think and act positively. Once your breakup is behind you, you can concentrate completely on the future and get on with your life. Always remember there is someone waiting for you out there. So get ready to get into the dating scene and enjoy it as much as you can.
