McDonald’s (Camp Lowell & Swan) Review
Cleanliness of restaurant
This restaurant has a lot of things going for it. First of all, the designers were smart. Plenty of windows facing the beautiful mountains! What a view! I would venture to say that they may have the best view of all the fast food restaurants in Tucson.
The layout is different for a McDonald’s – obviously trying to appeal to a little more affluent neighborhood (right outside the foothills) – there is “fountain art” right in the middle of the dining room and the decor was a few steps above your typical McDonald’s.
Let me tell you a little about me: I have sympathy if a restaurant is a little dirty and they are busy, however, if they are slow, I have no sympathy.
So, you guessed it, they were slow. The floor was dirty when I got there and it was still dirty when I left. What I mean by dirty is that it obviously needed to be swept. There were a few tables that needed to be wiped off. I didn’t see one person pick up a broom and sweep the floor the entire 30 minutes I was there. The men’s bathroom had an absolutely dirty mirror and lots of toilet paper on the floor.
I am still giving a 1/2 of a chopping block because the floor wasn’t filthy and because I liked the layout and the view.
Quality and speed of service
Okay, I was going to give 1/2 of a chopping block but my wife talked me into a full one. (Maybe I should create a 3/4?)
Our order taker “S” was very friendly. She had thought that the coupon my wife presented was expired – but after my wife examined the coupon more closely with her, “S” realized that the coupon didn’t expire recently, but rather became valid recently (one of those valid from xxx – xxx coupons).
Our fries were not ready when we ordered so we had to wait for a couple of minutes, however, “S” was kind enough to tell us to have a seat and she would bring them out to us when they were done cooking. (Big brownie points for this one.) Of course business was slow, but this was a nice touch. (Good job “S”.)
Quality of food
I had the #2 value meal (large size) with, you guessed it, a Diet Coke. My wife had a Big and Tasty, Value Fries and a Strawberry Shake (the coupon was for the shake). As far as proper building of the Big and Tasty, it seemed like it was built right. (My wife actually opened the wrapper and looked that the “guide” to building the Big and Tasty). My wife’s only concern was that there was pepper on her burger. Now she typically has the Big and Tasty but has never seen pepper on it before. (At least she is pretty sure it was pepper.) Now this could be something new or old, but she didn’t like it. She also thought her onions were a little on the strong side. (I kissed her afterwards and I have to agree!)
My two cheeseburger value meal was fine. The best part was the soda fountain in the dining room! I was able to get my own refills easily!
Because of the onions and the “pepper?” I almost gave the a 1/2 of a block – but I think a full block is still warranted because I don’t know about pepper? on the Big and Tasty.
Overall Dining Experience
Well, because of the wait on the fries, the dirty floor and bathroom along with the onions and “pepper?” I can only give them 1/2 of a block. This McDonald’s has a lot of potential and could “rock” with just a little guidance. I loved the view. The designer gets big points!
This McDonald’s is fine: it is not a dirty restaurant, the food is fine and the staff is helpful.
