2 to 7 Lowball Poker (Single Draw Play Poker)

Playing online poker has become a popular pastime for poker players of all skill levels. For players looking for an exciting alternative to the normal Hold’em or Stud games, Deuce to Seven lowball, also referred to as Kansas City lowball is there to fill the bill. Unlike standard online poker games, the objective in Deuce to Seven Lowball is to have the lowest possible hand.

Like all other poker games, Deuce to Seven Lowball has set guidelines for the cards dealt to the player and how the player can bet. There are five cards dealt face down to each player at the table and before a player views the cards, bets are made. After the cards are dealt, each player will have the option to call, raise, or fold. Players left after the initial deal will have the opportunity to discard and draw additional cards to try to better their hand. If a player feels that they can not better their hand they can “Stand Pat” and hold all their cards.

Blinds are the forced bets of Deuce to Seven Lowball. The player sitting to the immediate left of the dealer posts the small blind and the player to that player’s left posts the large blind. The large blind bet is generally twice the amount of the small blind bet. There is also a familiar poker bet involved in Deuce to Seven Lowball Poker, the ante. The ante is a small forced bet that is posted by all players at the table in addition to the blind bets.

Lower is Always Better

In order to excel at Deuce to Seven Lowball poker, the poker player must change their way of thinking when it comes to a winning hand. The best possible hand in Lowball poker is 7, 5, 4, 3, and 2 of different suits. The example hand is a surefire winner because it has the lowest possible score, with the seven as the high card. No other player could produce a lower scoring hand.

Like regular games of poker, if two or more players have a similar low hand, the lowest high card will win the hand. If a dealt hand exceeds the number of cards in the deck, the discarded cards from re-draws and folded player’s hands will be reshuffled in order to complete the current hand.
